Foursquare, a location based social media platform, allows people to check in at certain locations then get coupons or discounts when checking in. Once a person checks in, they share their location and discount with their Foursquare network. This then attracts other people in a person’s Foursquare network to come shop at this certain store location. Even though this seems like a new form of advertising it is not. It is simply word of mouth advertising done through a mobile device on a social networking platform.
